Side Effects HRT (hormone replacement therapy)
For women, who live to the age of 90, the risk of getting breast cancer in her lifetime is one in eight. In Germany almost 50 000 cases are newly diagnosed each year. One of the recognized risk factors is long-term combined hormone replacement therapy. Congenics, together with a large consortium of hospitals and research facilities coordinated by the German Cancer Research Institute (DKFZ, Heidelberg) is the exclusive contributor of genome wide screening technology within the project. The project which receives funding from the Federal Department of Research and Technology will genetically screen a total of more than 10 000 patients and controls.
