Narcolepsy
Narcolepsy is a rare disorder affecting the regulation of sleep/wake cycling. Main symptoms are day time sleepiness and cataplexies (sudden loss of muscle tone), automatic behavior and sleep paralysis. In addition, patients suffer from weight gain.
Congenics is interested in the elucidation of genetic risk factors. Potential applications include new pharmacological targets for sleep disorders, as well as obesity and diabetes type 2.
